Frequently asked questions
- Are the files uploaded when you convert them?
- No. Transcoding happens locally in your browser with FFmpeg — the audio is never sent to a server.
- Should I choose WAV or MP3?
- Use WAV (lossless) for editing and post-production, and MP3 for chat apps and everyday listening. M4A suits Apple devices better and FLAC is good for archiving.
- Can I turn the sound in a video into an MP3?
- First extract the track with Extract Audio, then change the format here. This page only handles audio files you already have.
- Can I convert a lot of files at once?
- Yes, up to 50 at a time. They are transcoded one by one in the browser (only one can run at a time), so keep the page open when there are many. You can then download them individually or as a ZIP.
- Will the result sound worse or quieter?
- WAV and FLAC are lossless. MP3 / AAC / OGG / OPUS are lossy — the higher the bitrate, the closer to the original; converting a lossy file back to WAV cannot recover detail that was already thrown away.
