Turn a video into a long image for WeChat Moments? Three steps

WeChat video previews are small and slow to load. Sampling the frames into one long image gives a much nicer scrolling experience in Moments.

I recorded a two-minute product demo and wanted to post it to WeChat Moments — sending the video directly gives a tiny thumbnail and a silent autoplay that many people swipe past; nine screenshots break the rhythm. A long image made from the video is now my first choice for tutorial previews: one image you scroll to the bottom, lighter than a video and more continuous than a grid.

WeChat has never handled video previews or compression especially well; a long image is a static JPG, it loads fast and the text stays readable, which suits step-by-step walkthroughs, comparisons and event recaps.

Three steps

Step 1: open the tool
Go to Video to Long Image and drop in the MP4. The frames are sampled locally in the browser, nothing is uploaded.

Step 2: choose the sampling interval

  • Tutorials and walkthroughs: one frame every 2–3 seconds, so no key step is missed.
  • Travel clips and vlogs: one frame every 1 second, for a livelier feel.
  • Long meetings: one frame every 5 seconds, keeping the total height under the WeChat long-image limit.

Step 3: pick a width, preview and download
A width of 750px is sharp enough for Moments; use 1080 if it will be printed or shown on a big screen. Scroll through the preview to check for black frames, then download the JPG or PNG.

Where it fits

  • Software tutorials: one frame per step, so a client can scan the flow without pressing play.
  • Workout videos: the key movement frames lined up, saved by the trainee as a reminder.
  • Event recaps: lighter than a video, and older relatives can scroll through it too.
  • Comparison reviews: the before and after stacked vertically, which is more convincing than a single screenshot.

If the original is too long, Trim Video it down to the best thirty seconds first — otherwise the image gets so tall that WeChat compresses it into a blur.

If the source was vertical, coming from Landscape to Vertical Video, every frame in the long image is 9:16 too, which is exactly the right ratio for Moments.

My advice

Before posting I do this: original → Compress Video if needed to speed up the sampling → Video to Long Image → check the total height; if it goes past 15000px I widen the sampling interval.

Try it → Open Video to Long Image, convert a thirty-second tutorial recording and post it — then see whether your friends scroll to the end.
